Ask the seeker to focus on their question while you shuffle the deck, then divide the deck into three piles, with the cards facing down. Expose the top card from each pile.
1. The first card represents the past or the heart of the matter, and describes the events, circumstances, or conditions that have led up to the current state of things.
2. The second card represents the near future, and describes a new condition or direction that may come about.
3. The third card represents the outcome of the situation in relation to the conditions revealed in the second card.

Ask the seeker to focus on their question while you shuffle the deck. Lay out ten consecutive cards in the positions shown above.
1. The first card represents the past or hear of the matter, and describes the events, circumstances, or conditions that have led up to the current state of things.
2. The second card represents the seeker's current state, and the circumstances that are present in the seeker's life which cause their question to arise.
3. The third card represents the seeker's hopes and fears.
4. The fourth card represents the seeker's recent past, and the influences which were once present in the seeker's life.
5. The fifth card determines whether, according to the current state of things, forces are working for or against the seeker to achieve a positive outcome to their question.
6. The sixth card represents new factors which have come into being in the seeker's life.
7. The seventh card represents how the near future is unfolding for the seeker.
8. The eighth card represents new developments that may alter the course of the current situation, including the effect others will have on the outcome of the seeker's question.
9. The ninth card represents how future events will affect the seeker.
10. The tenth card represents the outcome of the seeker's question.
