THE MAJOR ARCANA

The Major Arcana consists of 22 cards which represent the greater events in our lives.   

The Fool:        naivety, innocence, an unexpected matter

                        reversed:  foolishness; carelessness

 

The Magician:    readiness to put plan into action; power; confidence

                        reversed:  instability; manipulation

 

The Priestess:     intuition, spiritual inspiration, positive hidden influence

                        reversed:  secrecy; negative hidden influence

 

The Empress:    financial and emotional security; good fortune; pregnancy

                        reversed:  poverty; disruption of the home

                                                    

The Emperor:   reason over emotion; politics; authority; law and order

                        reversed:  domineering; unreasonable; poor self-control

 

The Priest:        conformity; tradition; ritual; ceremony

                        reversed:  unorthodox; unconventional ideas; confusion

 

The Lovers:       attraction; passion; an issue of love

                        reversed:  destructive passion; romantic disagreement

 

The Chariot:       self control; travel; drive; motivation

                        reversed:  lack of self-cotrol; scattered energy; delayed trip

 

Strength:            victory over difficulty; spiritual strength; confidence

                        reversed:  insecurity; lack of courage

 

The Hermit:       enlightenment; planning; guidance; finding a teacher

                        reversed:  bad advice; withdrawal

 

The Wheel:        a positive turn of events; moving upward; good luck

                        reversed:  bad turn of events; setbacks

 

Justice:              contracts, agreements, legal issues; karmic justice

                        reversed:  injustice; poor outcome in a legal matter

 

Hanged Man:    being stuck; projects on hold; contemplation

                        reversed:  readiness for decision or action

 

Death:               sudden radical change; a new life path 

                        reversed:  resisting change; forced change

 

Temperance:      adapting to new circumstances; self-control; moderation

                        reversed:  impatience; imbalance

 

The Devil:         temptation; evil influences; untrustworthy person

                        reversed:  overcoming weakness or temptation

 

The Tower:      breakdown; unexpected setbacks; danger; consequences

                        reversed:  acceptance; building a foundation

 

The Stars:        faith; dreams; hope

                        reversed:  disillusionment; doubt

 

The Moon:      intuition; psychic ability; deception

                        reversed:  hidden things come to light

 

The Sun:           happiness; well deserved reward; good new to come

                        reversed:  false sense of happiness

 

Judgment:         project nearing completion; rising above negativity

                        reversed:  delays; inability to resolve problems

 

The World:       completion; success; the end of a circumstance

                        reversed:  unfinished business; disappointment
