TAROT
The exact origin of the tarot is a highly disputed matter. Some claim that tarot cards are of Egyptian or Indian origin, while others claim Gypsies introduced tarot to the world. An increasingly popular hypothesis is that tarot began as an upper class card game ("tarocchi") in 15th Century Italy, and then spread throughout France. The French translation then became "tarot." Suffice it to say that the true origins of the tarot are a mystery.
Tarot decks are comprised of 78 cards, and are divided into two sections, the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana. The cards are used as a divination tool, to foretell future events should all things remain constant.
