The
Goddess
The Goddess, represented by the moon, is the embodiment of strength, fertility, love, and intuition. The Goddess has three aspects, which are represented by the lunar cycle. She is Maiden, Mother, and Crone, symbolized by the waxing, full, and waning moons. In the Maiden aspect, she is the beautiful young woman. She represents all that is young, naive, innocent, pure, and chaste. In her Mother aspect, she is the vibrant woman heavy with child. She represents fertility, love, healing, compassion, and nurturing. In her Crone aspect, she is the old woman. She represents wisdom, knowledge and experience.
The Goddess is the giver of
life and abundance, the mother of all that is. The Goddess is often
represented on Wiccan altars by a black candle positioned to the left of the
altar. Different traditions may use different colors to represent her.
The Goddess is called upon in Circle to lend her energies and bless magickal
workings. She is honored every time we commune with nature, and is present
when all new life begins. The Goddess is also the focus of all lunar
celebrations known as Esbats, or full moons.
